No. 6 – missing you

I love this song and sent it to HisLordship this morning to let him know how I am feeling being apart from him. I like Snow Patrol anyway and have listened to them since I bought their first album back in 1998.  ‘Set the Fire to the Third Bar’ is from their ‘Eyes Open’ album from 2006 and I have always found it really haunting. The words fit how I feel to be apart from Sir and convey the intensity of a relationship and a connection like the one we have. I feel that although we are separated by the physical miles, we are still intimate emotionally, so it is as though he is with me whenever I choose to drift inside myself and allow myself to get lost in him.

I love the way that everything in the song disappears into insignificance in comparison to how they feel about one another and nothing else really matters apart from them. It transcends space and time and allows them to connect. The trust and love they have for each other and their relationship echoes how I feel about ours. The emotion is raw and is expressed in a very physical sense which is also appropriate to the way that we feel. We have a need for each other than can only really be satisfied by the combination of the emotional and the physical and that means that when apart we long for each other and when together we melt back into being one in a sense.

Set the Fire to the Third Bar

I find the map and draw a straight line
Over rivers, farms and state lines
The distance from here to where you’d be
It’s only finger-lengths that I see

I touch the place
Where I’d find your face
My fingers increases
Of distant dark places

I hang my coat up in the first bar
There is no peace that I’ve found so far
The laughter penetrates my silence
As drunken men find flaws in science

Their word’s mostly noises
Ghosts with just voices
Your words in my memory
Are like music to me

I’m miles from where you are
I lay down on the cold ground
I, I pray that something picks me up
And sets me down in your warm arms

After I have traveled so far
We’d set the fire to the third bar
We’d share each other like an island
Until exhausted, close our eyelids

And dreaming, pick up from
The last place we left off
Your soft skin is weeping
A joy you can’t keep in

I’m miles from where you are
I lay down on the cold ground
And I, I pray that something picks me up
And sets me down in your warm arms

And miles from where you are
I lay down on the cold ground
And I, I pray that something picks me up
And sets me down in your warm arms
